It's
true that humans are naturally self-seeking and self-conceited, we naturally
want to have our way but we can't rule out the fact that there's something in
us that wants to always help people which is good.
Sometimes
it can be out of our own selfish interest or because we love people.
One
thing you need to know when you're helping people is this: sometimes what we
spot in others is also our own vulnerable point. It means its also our weak
point that we can see in others.
You
might have become stronger in that aspect and this might make you feel you have
the strength and ability to help another, but this isn't always the case. You
might not have conquered your demon.

An
example: a person smokes but after about 5 or 7 times of fighting the urge, he
sees someone else who is smoking and he rushes to help, meanwhile the person is
smoking as they are talking. The urge will come back in a stronger way and the
person might just go back to his cigarettes or if you have a weakness for the other
sex, then you should know that you should set boundaries in your own life and
not try to rush to help.
The
whole point is this: you have to be sure you are strong enough to stand on your
own. if you want to help someone else, make sure your own life is patterned in
such a way that you have a reserve that never runs out.
